The Systems Approach - Today's pool equipment has the potential to offer significantly better performance than older designs.  Yet, the promise of improved performance isn't always realized if the components aren't properly matched.  Although not all pool product manufacturer offers such fully integrated systems, Pentair's line of pumps, filters, and heaters have been designed to work together to deliver top performance, maximum energy efficiency, and long, maintenance-free life.  Your builder will be happy to recommend a pump, filter, and heater combination that best meet the needs of your pool.

A Primer on Pumps - The pump is the heart of the pool's circulation system. A pool pump should circulate all pool water at least once a day. And efficiency is what counts. Greater efficiency means lower utility costs.  The key to pump efficiency lies deep in the heart of the pump's design.  The secret is to minimize turbulence as water passes through the pump. Less turbulence means less energy and less noise.

WhisperFlo pumps incorporate innovative hydraulic engineering, refined over 40 years, to move water more efficiently and quietly than competitive pumps. Under typical operation conditions, WhisperFlo offers the greatest water flow of any high performance pump—yet with the lowest electrical consumption.

Pentair Pool Products offers the premier portfolio of pumps to meet or exceed all requirements of inground or aboveground pools, pool/spa combinations, and water features. From the powerful WhisperFlo™ Ultra-Flow™ and Challenger™ to the compact Dynamo1™, Pentair pumps provide energy-efficient and quiet operation, ease of maintenance, and long life.

Understanding Fiber Options - Keeping your pool sparkling clear is easier than ever, thanks to the high efficiency of today's filtration systems. As water circulates through the pool's filter, it traps impurities such as body oils, hair, insects, lint, and even particles too small to be seen by the naked eye.  Today's pool owner can choose from three different types of filters.  Each utilizes a different filtration technology and offers different filtration capabilities.

Sand Filters - Sand filters are one of the most popular ways to filter water for good reasons.  They are simple, effective, and require very little attention.  Pool water is routed through a sand filled pressure vessel.  Over time, dirt accumulates in the spaces between the sand particles causing the pressure in the vessel to rise as water finds it harder to pass through.  This signals you to "backwash" the filter.  Simply reverse the water flow and "knock out" the dirt.

Diatomoceous Earth Filters -  Filtering with diatomaceous earth (D.E.) results not only in clean water, but water that really sparkles.  The secret is powdered prehistoric sponges that trap even the tiniest dirt particles.  Even though particles smaller than 40 microns can't be seen with the naked eye, large quantities of these microscopic contaminants have a very noticeable affect on water clarity.  And D.E. strips them away.

D.E. filters not only filter better, they can make your life easier... if two goals are met.  First is to maximize the filtration area.  Because more filter area means much longer periods between cleanings.  Second is to design a system that requires the least amount of pumping power to achieve a needed flow rate.  Because lower pumping power means lower utility costs.

Cartridge Fitters -  Looking for top-end filter performance with the lowest maintenance?  Look at a cartridge filter.  This proven design uses special filter elements to strip particles from pool water with great effectiveness.   Maintenance? Open the top.  Remove the cartridge, hose it off.  What could be simpler?

Kill The Chill - Pool heaters help you get more enjoyment out of your pool or spa by allowing you to spend more time in it.  Today's high efficiency gas heaters and heat pumps such as those manufactured by Pentair Pool Products make extending your pool season, adding to your comfort, and maximizing your backyard enjoyment surprisingly affordable.  They heat up fast.  They are economical to run.  And they're built to last.

The key to pool heating economy is combustion efficiency... making sure the heat that is generated is transferred to the pool water with as close to 100% efficiency as possible.  Getting there requires an optimum combination of combustion chamber design, burner assemblies and materials, heat exchangers, and state-of-the-art heater insulation.  That's why Pentair MiniMax® heaters feature strong corrosion-resistant stainless steel burners, weatherproof powder-coated housings, ceramic fiber tile insulation and "intelligent" controls that sense water temperature and pressure for optimal flow.

Lighting - Underwater lights are a must for nighttime pool safety and enjoyment. But their usefulness doesn't end with simply illuminating darkened pools. Pool lights can also enhance your pool or spa's beauty and help you create a nighttime wonderland.

Pool and spa lighting systems have made significant technological advances in recent years.  The Spectrum Amerlite (SAM) automated color light from Pentair is a perfect example of today's advanced lighting design.  The Spectrum Amerlite (SAM) is the world's first underwater light that changes color continuously or locks on one single color at the flip of a switch.  Unlike ordinary pool lights, SAM features unique electronic intelligence that allows you to control the color of the light emitted by twin halogen quartz bulbs.

Delivering a wide spectrum of mesmerizing colors, SAM can bathe your pool in a custom color you select to suit your mood, or slowly roll through the entire spectrum in a luminous underwater display.  Imagine transforming your pool into a unique and breathtaking aquatic environment right before your eyes.  And for pools with more than one light, multiple SAM lights synchronize with one another to provide uniformly spectacular color from one end of the pool to the other.

Automatic cleaners, Automated Controls, Chemical Feeders and Maintenance Basics all round out the checklist for making your backyard dream a reality.
